Peugeot has revealed a diesel hybrid powered version of its 908 Le Mans racer at the Geneva Motor Show.
The latest 908 racer was premiered last month, but the model unveiled in Geneva this week makes use of a number of innovations from Peugeot's HYbrid4 technology programme. A kinetic energy recovery system allows the 908 HYbrid4 to gain short bursts of an extra 80bhp using energy regenerated from braking. Energy produced by braking is stored in lithium-ion batteries before being automatically fed to the rear wheels when accelerating. In addition, it will be able to run in the pit-lane under electrical power only.
The Peugeot 908 HYbrid4 complies with the latest endurance racing regulations, and Peugeot aim to run the 550bhp V8 powered machine at the Le Mans 24 Hours test day at the French circuit on the 24th of April, dependant on how it performs on its first track test at the end of the month.
