PROS: The Toyota Auris TR 1.4 D-4D MultiMode 5dr is a great family sized hatchback for those who aren’t looking for something too flashy.
CONS: A little bland on the styling front, and with a cheap feeling interior, the Auris is hardly the most desirable car in the world.
The 1.4-litre diesel engine offers only 89bhp and 152lb-ft of torque. This means 0-62mph takes a leisurely 14.7 seconds and flat out you'll be doing 109mph. The Auris is not a fast car.
The Auris is a competent performer through the bends and grips quite well with very little body roll. The ride is also very comfortable. However, the Auris is no fun to drive.
The looks of the Toyota Auris TR 1.4 D-4D MultiMode 5dr are in fact very similar to those of the old Corolla. The styling doesn’t offer too much pizzazz and the design is quite uninspiring.
The interior, on the other hand, is bold in design and offers both three-dimensional dials and a freestanding, arching central control. Here you will find the gearstick and handbrake. The positioning of both takes a little while to get used to and drivers may also find that they keep knocking their knees on the centre console.
Standard kit includes Bluetooth, CD, MP3 connectivity, immobilizer and rear parking sensors.
The Toyota Auris TR 1.4 D-4D MultiMode 5dr should be very reliable and comes with a five year/100,000 mile warranty as standard.
Every TR comes with front, side and curtain airbags as well as an additional airbag, which is there to protect the driver’s knees. The Toyota TR 1.33 VVT-i 5dr has received an overall Euro NCAP rating of 5 stars.
There is plenty of space within the cabin and the boot is a good size - 354-litres with the rear seats up and 761-litres with the rear seats down.
The Toyota TR1.33 VVT-i 5dr is priced at £18,785 which is very reasonable for a car of this type. It should also be relatively cheap to run thanks to a combined 57.6mpg and low road tax costs under VED band D.
The Auris replaces the old Corolla and is just as dull as its predecessor. It's a competent all-rounder and should be endlessly reliable but there are more exciting cars out there.
The more inexpensive models in the range offer a lot more value for money, so if you’re not too fussed about the sportier look, we suggest you’d do well to save a little money.
