PROS: Superb Honda reliability, good looks, excellent diesel engine
The Accord's 2.0-litre diesel engine churns out 148bhp and 258 lb-ft of torque, making for a 0-62mph time of 10 seconds flat and a top speed of 128mph. The Accord handles well, taking corners with ease, but the ride can be a little uncomposed over uneven surfaces and the Honda offers no sense of fun behind the wheel either. A BMW 3 Series it ain't.
The Accord looks good both inside and out. The cabin is particularly pleasant thanks to part-leather seats. Standard kit includes alloy wheels, climate control, electric windows, electric door mirrors, cruise control, CD player with MP3 connectivity and Bluetooth. Sat-nav and rear parking sensors are a joint optional extra and will set you back £1150 for the pair and metallic paint costs a further £490.
In terms of reliability the Accord comes with a three year/90,000 mile warranty and should be endlessly reliable thanks to Honda's superb reliability record.
The space in the rear is a little cramped but the Accord offers a good amount of boot space - 467 litres to be precise.
Safety should not be an issue and the Accord scored a full five stars in the Euro NCAP safety tests thanks to its impressive array of safety features which include driver, passenger and side airbags, stability control, traction control and ABS.
The Accord 2.2 i-DTEC ES GT Auto is an expensive buy at £26,135. While this is still comfortably cheaper than the equivalent BMW or Audi, the Accord isn't really chep enough to seem like good value.
You'll get 46.3mpg on the combined cycle which is pretty reasonable for a car of this type and CO2 emissions of 159g/km put the Accord into VED band G - again pretty reasonable. Insurance should also be relatively cheap as well with the Accord falling under group 24.
