The Vantage V8 Roadster gives the the classic Aston Martin looks and prestige badge at a lower price than the larger DB9 and Vanquish models. The drop down in size doesn't diminish these looks either, and if anything the compact size only serves to make the Vantage look even more powerful.

This car is clearly a strong competitor to both the BMW M6 and even the Porsche 911. But rather than changing the minds of its competitors fans and drawing them across in large numbers, it is most likely to appeal to people who have already fallen in love with the Aston Martin brand, but simply could not afford one of the larger and more expensive models.

PROS:  The Aston Martin Vantage Roadster is definitely a car that will get you noticed. And that is not only because of the undeniably sexy looks which the car has, it is also because of the equally georgeous sound which comes out of the V8 engine.

CONS:  Like all Aston Martin cars, the Vantage V8 Roadster will cost you a fortune to run. And that's if you can afford to buy one in the first place.

Behind the Wheel

Accelerating from 0-62mph in 4.8 seconds the Vantage is definitely a high performance car, even though it can't quite match competitors such as the BMW M6 which is slightly faster off the line. With 420bhp at 7000rpm and a top speed of 180mph the Vantage handles well, and the convertible Roadster version offers a comparible driving experience to the coupe - something which is not always the case with other car brands.

The 4735cc V8 engine produces 346lb-ft of torque at 5750rpm, and as mentioned previously, has one of the most pleasing noises on the market with higher revs producing an uncompromising, hard edged, and fairly loud sound.

With a six-speed manual gearbox as standard, you also have the option of upgrading to a sportshift paddle which is excellent for when you want to open her up on the motorway.

With agile handling and strong performance the only thing which detracts from a very satisfying driving experience is the off-set pedals, which can start to become a bit uncomfortable to use on long drives.

Looks & Equipment

With perfectly juged curves and classic Aston Martin grille this is one of the best looking convertibles on the market.

It also comes with a decent lits of standard equipment, as you would expect from a car in this price band, such as power steering, DSC stability control, climate control, alloy wheels, driver and passenger air bags and a full set of electric controls for the windows, mirrors and drop down roof.

You also get rear parking sensors, cruise control, and an immobilisers as standard, as well as mp3 and bluetooth connectivity. There is the option to include a SatNav, but that is not included in the standard package.

Practicality, Safety & Reliability

For a car of this type there is a suprisingly ample storage space in the boot - 144-litres to be precise, so if you are heading out for a weekend away you will not have any trouble fitting a couple of bags in the back. There is also a good amount of leg room for the driver and passenger; you won't feel cramped in this car, but then there are no rear seats so you can only carry one passenger.

With a 3 year unlimited mile warranty reliability should not be a problem with the Aston Martin Vantage V8 Roadster.

For those of you concerned about your environmental impact, the CO2 emissions come in at 328g/km.

Value for Money

Value for money is not a strong point for Aston Martin, and the Vantage V8 Roadster is no different. Managing just 20.8mpg this is not an efficient car, and the 80-litre tank will not take you far before you need to refill.

At £104,995 this is not a cheap car to buy in the first place either, especially when you compare it to some of its key rivals such as the Porsche 911.

But having said that, the fuel efficiency is better than you would get from the larger Aston Martin DB9 and Vanquish cars, and the and it is also cheaper to buy and will look just as good sitting on your drive.
