Back in 2001, Smart revealed the Crossblade to the world. Now, ten years on, images have been revealed of its potential successor and it is again time to ask, ‘have they gone mad?’

This reincarnation of the Crossblade is actually slightly less mad, at first glance, when compared to the original, the first thing that you will notice is the presence of the doors! Back in 2001 at the Geneva Motor Show, Smart’s crazy new concept didn’t bother with anything as boring as that, replacing the doors with a set of unconventional safety bars.

The recently released designs of the Crossblade hit the web this week, and they show the crazy little roadster from a range of different angles and apart from the doors, it still appears as quirky as the 2001 version, with looks that will no doubt divide opinion.

The new Crossblade has Smart’s trademark Tridion Safety cell, as well as the tiny windscreen that was present on the original, only it is a newly curved version to fit in with the new modern styling.

At this point, details of the new Crossblade - and when we might be seeing it in the flesh - are few and far between, but a concept version could be popping up at a motor show in the not too distant future.
