A mid-engined, rear-wheel drive version of the Hyundai Veloster has made its debut at the Busan motor show in South Korea.

The futuristic new show car, called the Hyundai Veloster Midship concept, has been developed by Hyundai's High Performance Team, which was also responsible for the Hyundai i20 World Rally Car.

From the outside it looks broadly similar to the standard road-going Veloster; however, where you'd normally find the rear seats, Hyundai has plonked a 296bhp 2.0-litre petrol engine. The engine has been positioned to optimise weight distribution and handling balance.

The Veloster Midship is also slightly wider and lower than the production car and features a high-rigidity chassis and lightweight aluminium suspension, along with high-performance shock absorbers, bigger brakes and an active exhaust.

Unfortunately, Hyundai claims that "the Midship is a concept only to explore possibilities for the Veloster chassis and is currently not related to any future production model."
