A concept inspired by the legendary Land Rover Defender will be unveiled by the British firm at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

Land Rover claims that it intends to put a new Defender into production in 2015. Director of Design at Land Rover, Gerry McGovern said, "Replacing the iconic Defender is one of the biggest challenges in the automotive design world; it is a car that inspires people worldwide.  This isn't a production-ready concept but the beginning of a four-year journey to design a relevant Defender for the 21st century."

The concept is clearly reminiscent of the existing Defender and, given the current vogue for modern 'reinterpretations' of old cars such as the Fiat 500 and the new MINI, Land Rover could be on to a winner.

The Jaguar Land Rover Frankfurt Show press conference is being held on 13th September at the Frankfurt Motor Show and a webstream of the conference will be available to watch on the Land Rover website.
