Honda has unveiled the UNI-CUB Beta, a new personal mobility device which will make its world debut at the Tokyo Motor Show next week.

Those of you with an eidetic memory may recall us telling you about the UNI-CUB last year. Designed as a result of the research which went into Honda's ASIMO robot, the UNI-CUB featured an innovative omni-directional driving wheel system known as Honda Omni Traction Drive System which allowed its user to move the device by shifting their bodyweight and leaning towards the intended direction. Honda claimed that this gave the user the freedom of movement they'd expect if they were walking.

The new UNI-CUB β is an evolution of the UNI-CUB which is smaller and lighter than the original model. It also features a lower seating position and enhanced design and materials, which Honda claims improves usability.

The UNI-CUB β has a top speed of 3mph and can travel up to 3 miles on a single charge of its lithium-ion battery.

The Tokyo Motor Show begins next week.
