Citroen has released a teaser image of its new Cactus concept, which is set to be unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month.

The image appeared on the French firm's official Facebook page and although no information has yet been released on the Cactus concept, it is believed that the car will showcase Citroen's future styling direction.

As you can see from the image, there's more than a hint of the latest C4 Grand Picasso about the Cactus' front end. The chunky black plastic bumpers also seem to indicate that the Cactus could be an off-roader of some kind -- perhaps not a full-on 4x4 but certainly a crossover of some type.

The original C-Cactus concept of 2007 got a prickly reception. Ahem.

It isn't the first time Citroen has used the Cactus name on a concept car. At the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show, Citroen revealed the C-Cactus concept which it described as "an imaginative and ingenious eco-friendly concept car brimming with clever thinking and dramatic design." Unfortunately for Citroen, the original Cactus received a largely negative reaction when it was unveiled and was criticised for being too radical.

We'll have to wait until the Frankfurt show begins on 10 September before we can see the Cactus concept in full.
