The Volvo C30 is a small family hatchback with a very good looking modern body. It is a relatively new car which is still in its first generation which is unsurprising when its modern image is considered, yet despite its good looks it still comes at a reasonable price, which cannot be said of all things with good looks.

Volvo C30 Overview
It does however have its flaws, boot space is limited and if you are sat in the back you may not be in for the most comfortable of experiences as leg room isn’t exactly abundant.
On the other hand the ride is pretty decent especially at higher speeds, the steering feels weighted and responsive and there weren’t many complaints other than the noise of the wind and road was always present, although this shouldn’t be a problem for the targeted market, as they will no doubt be able to block those sounds out with their boyish stereo systems.
The C30 is targeted at the youth and the first time buyers.
Background
The Volvo C30 is a small family car that was officially unveiled in 2006. The car was produced as a hatchback version of the S40, V50 and C70 range and is being marketed towards the youth and first time buyers as a sporty option.
The C30 is a three-door, four-seat hatchback with straight 4 and straight 5 engines. Over all the Volvo C30 has a wide selection of engines ranging from a 1.6L straight-4 to a 2.4L straight-5 (petrol and diesel) with an extra 2.5L turbocharged, straight-5 option in petrol.
It was built on the same platform as the S40, V50 and C70 and shares many of the design features visible on the Volvo 480, notably the ‘sportback’ body style and glass tailgate. The C30 was inspired by the 1800ES and has a similar interior design to that of the S40 and V50.
Like many other Volvo’s, the C30 is held in high regards in terms of safety, it features an impressive list of safety equipment which comes as standard. As a result the Volvo C30 has been awarded with a Top Safety Pick award from the ‘Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’.
Summary
Overall the C30 is a good modern car especially for young and first time buyers who aren’t too concerned with carriage space, yet want an affordable, cheap to maintain, stylish hatchback that will prove dependable and safe.
