Volkswagen Overview
Brief History
Volkswagen was the brainchild of Ferdinand Porsche in 1934. It was the product of a scheme to create a “peoples’ car”; a more affordable automobile for the general public.
The “peoples’ car” survived the Second World War and by 1955 was expanding outside of Germany with a worldwide market. After its original success the company saw many ups and downs, but really found its feet with its Polo, Golf and Passat modes.
The early 1990s saw Volkswagen expand further when they purchased SEAT (a Spanish Car manufacturer) and Skoda (a Czech car manufacturer). They also won the European Car of the Year award in 1992 giving them a chance to move up the market.
Despite a few previous image problems and set-backs, Volkswagen is consistently being recognised for its dependability and build-quality

Volkswagen up!
Forget the stupid name, this is a seriously good little city car. Launched in 2012, the up! is VW's replacement for the Fox and it's classy, comfortable and good to drive. Easily the best car in the class.
Volkswagen Golf
The Volkswagen Golf is a medium family car, most commonly produced as a three or five door hatchback. The Golf is front-wheel drive and has been Volkswagen’s most successful venture since the Beetle. The Golf was first produced in 1974 and has been produced across many generations. It has been commended for its superb handling and practicality.
Volkswagen Passat
The Volkswagen Passat is a family car. The Passat was designed to replace the Volkswagen Type 3, Type 4, and the K70. The Passat was first produced in 1973 and has been produced in six generations. The Passat has been produced as both a small family car and as a large family car.
Volkswagen Phaeton
The Volkswagen Phaeton is a full-size luxury saloon. The Phaeton is a four-door saloon that currently serves as Volkswagen’s high-end flagship model. The Phaeton was first produced in 2002 and was designed specifically to compete with other brands’ high-end flagship models.
Volkswagen Polo
The Volkswagen Polo is a small family car which was first produced in 1975 and is available in hatchback, coupe, saloon, estate, and small 4X4 form. The Polo has received a number of “facelift” revisions to keep it current a relevant.
The Polo has been produced in a number of separate generations, which is identifiable by a “Series” or “Mark” number. When the Mark II model arrived, the saloon became known as the ‘Volkswagen Polo Classic’ and the hatchback as the ‘Volkswagen Polo Coupe’. The hatchback version of the Polo was the most successful in almost every country the Polo was available.
Volkswagen Sharan
The Volkswagen Sharan is a large MPV. The Sharan is the result of a joint venture between the Volkswagen Group and Ford. The five-door MPV was first produced in 1995 and has been produced in two versions.
Volkswagen Touareg
The Volkswagen Touareg is a medium 4X4. The Touareg is a front engine, four-door, four-wheel drive vehicle. The Touareg comes with a variety of V6, V8, and V10 engines including a couple of diesel options. The Touareg was first produced in 2003.
Volkswagen Touran
The Volkswagen Touran is a large MPV. The Touran is a taller version of the Volkswagen Golf and boasts an excellent build quality. The car has been produced in five and seven-seat form. The Touran is a more nimble vehicle than most of the other seven seaters on the market. Production of the Touran began in 2003.
Volkswagen Jetta
The Volkswagen Jetta is a medium family car. The Jetta has been produced in four generations and is available in several forms; coupe, saloon, and estate. The Jetta has been recognised as a quality and functional car. Production of the original Jetta began in 1980.
Volkswagen CC
VW has ditched the 'Passat' prefix for the second-generation of its four-door coupe model. CC stands for Comfort Coupe and the CC delivers comfort by the bucketload - not to mention good fuel economy and exclusivity.
Volkswagen Eos
The Volkswagen Eos is a convertible coupe with a range of engine options. The Eos was designed to replace the Volkswagen Cabrio. The Eos is a standalone model with all new body panels unlike the Cabrio which was a convertible version of the Golf hatchback. Production of the Eos began in 2006.
Volkswagen Fox
The Volkswagen Fox was a city hatchback designed to replace the Volkswagen Lupo in Europe. The car was produced from 2004 until it was replaced by the up! in 2012.
Volkswagen Scirocco
The Volkswagen Scirocco is a 3-door Coupe. The Scirocco was reintroduced in a third generation of development in August 2008. The model has a good range of engines to choose from and has scored well regarding safety achieving a 5 star safety rating from EuroNCAP.
Volkswagen Beetle
The Volkswagen Beetle is the economy car that Volkswagen is probably most famous for. The Beetle is a medium family car and has been in and out of production since Volkswagen’s early years. For this reason the Beetle is the most-manufactured car of a single design platform ever. Beetle production was however ended in 2003 after a steady decrease in demand. It will however return in 2012.
Volkswagen Tiguan
The Volkswagen Tiguan is a medium 4X4. The Tiguan is modelled on Volkswagen Golf’s PQ35 platform. There are a variety of options to choose from when purchasing a Tiguan, it is produced in two different body styles and three specification levels. There is a Trend and Fun spec, a Sport and Style spec and a Track and Field spec.
