PROS: The turbocharged engine is smooth and the 95 Vector has a very large boot for practicality. It is a comfortable car, with a reasonable amount of equipment.
CONS: The saloon has quite a firm ride at lower speeds and the gearbox isn't very smooth. It doesn't look up to the quality of a premium saloon.
This Saab 95’s ride is suitably refined when cruising on motorways and capable of tackling a country road, but when pushed too hard, the handling loses a lot of control. The steering feels precise though and overall it almost holds its own with the best in class.
The 2.0 litre four cylinder turbocharged diesel engine produces maximum figures of 157 bhp at 4000 rpm and 258 lb-ft at 1750 rpm. The Saab 95 has a 0-62 mph time of 9.9 seconds and a top speed of 134 mph.
There’s plenty of adjustment in the driver’s seat and steering wheel to allow drivers to find a decent position. The dashboard is laid out reasonably well with easy to read instruments but for the most part it looks and feels way behind the dashes of its rivals.
The Saab 95 Vector SE 2.0 TiD 4dr is a smart and good looking car, from the distinctive Saab grill to the curvaceously sculpted rear.
Inside the cabin you get keyless start, a CD player, MP3 connectivity, Bluetooth, electric windows, electric door mirrors, Satnav, cruise control, rear parking sensors, leather seats and dual-zone climate control as standard. It also comes with alloy wheels, an alarm and immobiliser and front fog lights.
Metallic paint is a £540 option and a Head-Up display £615.
This Saab 95 comes with many safety features including six airbags, ABS, Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) and stability control.
Saab’s fair reasonably well in the reliability stakes but they aren’t without their problems. This car comes with a three year 60,000 mile warranty.
The saloon is spacious both in the cabin and in the boot, which offers 515 litres of space.
At £26,995 the Saab 95 Vector SE 2.0 TiD 4dr is competitively priced in its class.
It is practical with a spacious, comfortable cabin with a reasonable spec and a large amount of luggage space. It drives well and feels sturdy, but it’s not the most appealing premium car in its class and it’ll attract fairly low resale values.
A combined cycle of 53.2 mpg is an excellent figure for a car of this size and with a CO2 emissions figure of 125 g/km the taxes and running costs will be pleasingly low.
