The 5008's 1.6-litre diesel engine produces 112 bhp and 117 lb-ft of torque. This allows it to accelerate from 0-62 mph in 12.9 seconds and reach a maximum speed of around 115mph.
The ride is very supple and is smooth over all but the roughest roads and the handling is surprisingly responsive for an MPV. The engine is also very quiet and does its job with a minimum of fuss; however, there is a bit of wind noise at higher speeds.
The 5008 SR HDi comes with a fairly basic level of standard equipment when compared to the more expensive models in the range. You get alloys, air-con, electric front windows and electric mirrors, a CD player, Bluetooth and Sat-nav but MP3 connectivity, leather seats, parking sensors and cruise control are all unavailable.
You can upgrade to metallic paint for £440.
The 5008 is a very good looking car and the interior is very stylish and tastefully appointed. The quality of the interior plastics is also exemplary.
The 5008 scored the full five stars in the Euro NCAP crash tests and should therefore be a very safe place to be in the event of an accident.
The interior of the 5008 is cavernous, with space for seven and an impressive amount of boot space. You get 679-litres of room in the boot with the rear seats up and a van-like 2506-litres when the rear seats are down. It should be noted, however, that the rearmost seats are suitable only for children.
There is a bit of question mark over reliability. On the one hand, Peugeot make some shockingly unreliable cars. On the other hand, the 5008 is based on the Citron C4 Picasso which has proven to be very reliable. Only time will tell.
At £20,645, the 5008 SR HDi FAP is very reasonably priced for a seven-seater and offers very good value for money, despite its modest level of standard equipment.
Running costs will also be low thanks to the Pug's super-grugal diesel engine. You'll get 53.3mpg on the combined cycle and CO2 emissions of 135g/km mean that the 5008 falls under VED band E.
