Kia Rio Overview

The Rio wasn’t built for performance, but it does offer good handling and a smooth ride for the most part. The car’s braking system works well too, and even though the Rio wasn’t built for speed it does deliver a decent ride with adequate power at an affordable price.

The Kia Rio is among one of the largest vehicles in its class. Front and rear passengers will have adequate head and legroom. Taller passengers will be less comfortable riding in the back seats.

The Rio is very reasonably priced with low running costs and good fuel economy.

Background

The Kia Rio was first introduced in 2000. The first generation was offered in both four-door saloon and five-door hatchback body styles.

It was well received for its affordability, although not for its build quality and driving experience.

Transmission was available as a 4-speed automatic or 5-speed manual. 2002 saw a facelift for the model, with an upgraded engine and remodelled interior and exterior.

The second generation Rio went into production in 2005. The new model was equipped with more interior gadgets and had a sleeker exterior.

The car received a facelift in 2009 and featured a new grille and modified headlights.

The third generation has been in production since 2011 after its unveiling at the Geneva Motor Show. It is now available with a 6-speed transmission in both manual and automatic form.

Summary

The Kia Rio is a brilliant car for small families, delivering space, comfort and performance at an affordable price.
