Brief History
Founded in 1944 as Kyungsung Precision Industry, a steel tubing and bicycle parts manufacturer, Kia is South Korea's oldest car company. The name was changed to Kia, meaning "rising out of Asia", in 1952.
In 1992, Kia expanded to the United States opening its first factory on US soil. The company has successfully built factories in many regions throughout the United States and they export to many other countries.
In 1998 Hyundai Motor Company acquired 51% of Kia, outbidding Ford Motor Company which had owned an interest in Kia Motors since 1986. After subsequent divestments, Hyundai Motor Company currently owns less than 50% of the company.
In recent years Kia have identified the European market as their main point of focus. The company offers a particularly wide range of vehicles currently in production.

Model Range
Kia Picanto
The Kia Picanto is a small, low cost city car that has been in production since 2004.
The Picanto is a 5-door hatchback with a small engine – 1.0 and 1.1 litres available. The small engine size enhances the affordability of the car making it not only cheap in price, but also cheap to run. The attractive exterior of the Picanto completes it as one of the best city cars on the market.
Kia Rio
The Kia Rio is a small family car, currently in its third generation.
The Rio is available as a 5-door hatchback or a 4-door saloon. The hatchback is more spacious than its similar priced competitors. As well as an easy-to-use control system and a comfortable interior, the Rio has a smart exterior. The model has been in production since 2000.
Kia Venga
The Venga is a small MPV that has been in production since 2009. The Venga is a 5-door 5-seater which makes a great family car.
Kia Soul
The Kia Soul is a medium sized family car. Like many Kias, the Soul is fuel efficient and relatively cheap to run compared with other cars of its size. The Soul is sold with a six-speaker stereo system that includes a CD player, a USB port and Sirius Satellite Radio. Additional features available for upgrade include additional speakers, steering-wheel-mounted audio controls and Bluetooth for hands-free connectivity.
There are flat-folding seats in the rear of the car that can be moved in order to increase storage space.
Kia Cee’d
The Kia Cee’d is a medium sized family car that has been in production since 2006.
The Cee’d is designed with a front mounted engine with front-wheel drive. The Cee’d is also equipped with independent front and rear suspension. As well as an advanced interior, the Kia Cee’d is very reasonably priced and particularly spacious, making for an excellent family car. The car is available with a range of transmissions and engine sizes.
Kia Cee’d SW
The Cee’d SW is a 5-door estate version of the Kia Cee’d.
Kia Pro_Cee’d
The Pro_Cee’d is a 3-door hatchback version of the Kia Cee’d.
Kia Optima
The Optima is a four-door family saloon which has been in production since 2000. Currently in its third generation, the Optima offers a genuine alternative to the likes of the Mondeo and the Insignia, and it looks good too.
Kia Carens
The Kia Carens is a small MPV that has been produced since 1999 and is currently in its second generation, as it has been since 2006.
The current model boasts a more attractive exterior design than the previous generation and is available with petrol and diesel engines. The low asking price coupled with low running costs make the Carens a very viable low-budget family car. Moreover, the car handles exceptionally well and provides a comfortable driving experience.
Kia Sedona
The Kia Sedona is a large MPV.
The Sedona provides exceptional value for money and is very spacious, making it an excellent choice of car for a family. The car has been produced since 1998 and is currently in its second generation. The Sedona seats seven people comfortably. The exterior style has been improved and the interior has been designed for maximum comfort.
There are some luxury extra options, such as a DVD entertainment system.
Kia Sportage
The Kia Sportage is a small 4x4 that has been on the market since 1993. The Sportage is currently in its third generation as it has been since 2010.
The 5-seater makes as a great family car that provides a luxury interior and comfortable ride for everyone. The car’s off-road abilities are as impressive as its on-road abilities. Furthermore, the exterior shape of the model has been significantly enhanced.
Kia Sorento
The Kia Sorento is a large 4x4 that possesses different attributes to those we usually expect from a Kia. Unlike the typically affordable, practical models in the Kia range, the Sorento comes with a higher price tag and is undoubtedly one of the best 4x4s on today’s market.
As well as an attractive exterior shape, the Sorento has space in abundance and provides an exceptional off-road experience. The Sorento has been on the market since 2002 and is currently in its second generation.
