The Honda Jazz is a very good car and the Hybrid HE 5dr is a superb example of it. Excellent fuel efficiency, superb build quality and good practicality make it one of the best cars in its class.

PROS:  Superb fuel efficiency, quality build, good looks

CONS:  Rivals are more fun to drive, OAP image

Behind the Wheel

The Jazz Hybrid HE 5dr develops 87bhp and 89lb-ft of torque which makes for a top speed of 109mph and a 0-62mph time of 12.1 seconds. The Jazz Hybrid is not a fast car but nor is it depressingly slow.

It handles relatively well too. It's nowhere near as fun to drive as a Fiesta but it grips well and the steering is relatively direct. The ride is also quite comfortable and the Jazz is very well refined, remaining quiet even at high speeds.

Looks & Equipment

The Jazz is a relatively good looking car and comes with a good amount of standard equipment.

Standard kit includes alloy wheels, climate control, electric mirrors, electric windows all round and a CD player with MP3 connectivity.

Sat-nav and Bluetooth are unavailable on this model, as are leather seats and cruise control.

Practicality, Safety & Reliability

The Jazz is a very safe car and scored the full five stars in the Euro NCAP safety tests. It comes fitted as standard with a suite of airbags for the driver and passengers.

Honda build some of the most reliable cars in the world and the Jazz itself is noted for its strong build quality. It comes as standard with a 3 year/90,000 mile warranty.

The hybrid drivetrain does have a negative impact on boot space but the Jazz still offers a decent 303 litres of boot space.

Value for Money

This Jazz Hybrid HE is priced at a very reasonable £15,995. Running costs should be very low thanks to superb fuel economy of over 62.8mpg combined. CO2 emissions of 104g/km mean that road tax will be very cheap in band B and if you live in London, you won't have to pay the congestion charge because, of course, hybrids are exempt.
