The M Sport trim is an expensive upgrade from the SE version. The sport suspension is also a problem as it can be very uncomfortable, but it can be switched for the regular suspension if needs be.
PROS: The 325d M Sport is a powerful car with great handling, sporty good looks and a generous supply of equipment. The car is much quicker than the 320d, the engine is efficient and running costs are good for the size of the engine.
CONS: The 325d is less efficient than the 320d and the suspension is a little firm.
Previous versions of the 3 Series were criticised for suspension which was too firm and unfortunately, despite improvements, the same is true for these models. That being said, the handling in the 3 Series Coupe is fantastic, balanced and responsive. The car handles itself well on major roads as well as on winding B roads and this makes it versatile and great to drive.
The 325d engine is really powerful delivering 204 bhp with 317 lb-ft of torque. This gives it an impressively high speed of 152 mph whilst acceleration is fairly fast with the car travelling from 0-62 mph in 6.9 seconds. On top of this the engine is refined, offering a smooth and quiet drive.
The 3 Series Coupe is a great looking car and the layout of the internal instruments is well organised. The iDrive system is far more logical than on previous models, with the buttons angled towards the driver making them easier to operate.
The M Sport Coupe comes with leather seats, power steering, stability control, cruise control, climate control, alloy wheels, stereo, MP3 connectivity and rear parking sensors as standard, with optional extras including Bluetooth for £250 and satellite navigation for £1,550.
An advanced supply of safety equipment is offered as standard throughout the 3 Series Coupe range, ensuring buyers have confidence over their purchase. These include a total of six airbags, dynamic stability control, anti-lock braking system (ABS) and dynamic traction control. An alarm is also fitted to protect the car from theft and all of these features helped the car to achieve the top five star rating for safety in the NCAP crash tests.
The coupe has loads of room in the front and back, with plenty of legroom on offer. The boot is of a reasonable size too with 440 litres on offer when all the seats are in place. This can be expanded by collapsing the split-folding rear seats making the only disadvantage the awkward boot shape which makes loading a little difficult.
The quality of the materials are high within the car and overall the build feels solid and reliable. BMW has a good reputation for reliability.
Priced at £35,590 this car has a fairly big price tag although this is to be expected from a BMW.
Overall a combined fuel economy of 49.6 mpg and CO2 emissions of 151g/km are offered and this will make the Beemer cheap to run. However, the purchase price still seems a little steep considering what is offered and the cheaper SE model comes with a decent level of standard equipment but for much less money.
