The Mulsanne is a car that has designed to deliver true luxury to the buyer, and inside the cabin this is delivered in spades, while the level of equipment is also very good. The car drives very well for such a large vehicle, and the sheer number of customisation and colour options available will mean that most buyers will tailor the Mulsanne to suit their tastes and desires.

PROS:  The Mulsanne is everything you’d expect from a luxury car, delivering pace and performance in a package that is still refined and spacious with a comfortable ride.

CONS:  The styling of the Mulsanne may not be to everyone’s taste, and the boot isn’t as large as you would expect, while some areas of the trim are similar to those found in a standard Audi.

Behind the Wheel

The Mulsanne may be a behemoth of a car but it really doesn’t drive like one, with steering that reacts well and turns into corners willingly with plenty of grip, and it is really only in narrow streets that you will feel the size of the car. The car comes with four ride settings, and those allow the driver to choose between a slightly firmer ride or the more traditional Bentley settings which delivers supreme comfort even on rough roads. The driving position is very good and the seat and steering wheel can be adjusted to suit the individual, while the visibility is generally good too.

Considering the sheer size and weight of the Mulsanne, the performance delivered by the 6.75 litre v8 engine is amazing, with acceleration from 0-62mph in only 5.1 seconds. The top speed of 184mph is plentiful for motorway driving, while the cabin is calm and refined whether you are on the city street or powering down the motorway.

Looks & Equipment

The large square Bentley grille sets this car apart from the pack immediately, but the round headlights will not appeal to everyone. The raised bonnet hints at the massive engine within, while the slanting and smooth rear end is one that is very sleek but may have sacrificed a little in terms of practicality. Inside there is a wide range of options to change and improve the interior which is very comfortable and includes plush carpets and plenty of luxuries to suit even the most demanding individual.

The level of equipment included with the Mulsanne is very high indeed, with the alloy wheels and leather seats only the beginning of what is on offer. Satellite navigation and a hands free phone kit are also important for the executive on the move, while the CD stereo comes with a DVD player and a hard drive.

Practicality, Safety & Reliability

The Mulsanne is a practical car that is comfortable to use on long journeys, and can accommodate four adults in complete luxury. The boot may not be as large as some rivals, but still has a decent level of space available. Bentley has a very good reputation for making reliable cars, and this is certainly continued in the Mulsanne.

This car is also very safe, and comes with a fine range of airbags to look after the driver and passengers in case of an accident. There is also a good range of stability and driving aids that help to keep the Mulsanne stable and under control on the road, which is very important considering the power and bulk of the car.

Value for Money

The basic list price for the Bentley Mulsanne is £224,700, which is a large amount of money even for wealthy people, but it does offer a lot in return. The exquisite level of trim and luxury in the car is very nice, while the powerful engine gives performance aplenty, but it is the high level of customization that Bentley offers that will make the Mulsanne suitable to each individual.

Although the 6.75 litre engine may deliver good performance, this makes the vehicle incredibly expensive to keep filled up, with the car delivering an average 16.8mpg. Insurance costs are also very high, and although the relative depreciation isn’t particularly high, because of the initial purchase price it is still going to be an awful lot of money. The Bentley comes with a three year warranty and can boast roadside assistance for the duration of this period.
