The new Volvo Concept Estate, which gives us a sneak preview of how future Volvo production models could look, has made its world debut at the Geneva Motor Show.
The Concept Estate is the third model in a trio of concepts, following on from the Concept Coupe which was unveiled at last year's Frankfurt Motor Show and the Concept XC Coupe, which was unveiled at the Detroit Motor Show in January.
All three concepts give us significant clues as to what the new XC90 will look like when it's launched later this year.
The Concept Estate is a three-door shooting brake model which has been inspired by that most iconic of Volvos, the P1800ES of the 1970s.
"The 1800-models are iconic Volvos, renowned for their beautiful forms and detailing," said Volvo boss Thomas Ingenlath. "However, using elements from their exterior and interior has nothing to do with being retro. We are using these subtle links to a glorious past to create a future in which sheer beauty becomes a recognised part of Volvo's identity."
Inside, the cabin is dominated by a centrally-mounted touchscreen which controls all of the car's major functions and which can be controlled using smartphone-style finger gestures. Controls on the steering wheel and voice commands can also be used to operate the car's infotainment systems.
It's a stylish interior too, thanks to the use of woven wool carpets, tan leather seats and wood inlays, while the orange seatbelts and glowing orange gear lever give the interior a contemporary feel.
