Audi has shocked the Geneva Motor Show with this, the new Quattro Sport Concept of the TT, which has been unveiled alongside the new TT.
The TT Quattro Sport concept is a stripped-out, four-wheel drive version of the new TT coupe. Like the standard TT, it's fitted with a 2.0-litre TFSI petrol engine; however, unlike the standard TT, the Quattro Sport Concept develops a meaty 414bhp and 331lb-ft of torque and can get from 0-62mph in just 3.7 seconds.
Audi has achieved this colossal power by fitting the engine with a new cast alloy crankcase, new aluminium pistons, a forged steel crankshaft and a newly developed turbocharger.
In addition to this, the Quattro Sport Concept has been on a crash diet. The engine itself weighs just 150kg, while the whole car tips the scales at just 1,344kg, thanks largely to the removal of the rear seats, stereo and armrests, along with the use of aluminium in the suspension components and body panels.
Along with stiffer suspension and a carbon-fibre front splitter which increases downforce on the front axle, the Quattro Sport Concept gets 20-inch alloy wheels shod in semi-slick tyres and wheel arches which are 30mm wider than on the standard car.
Inside, the front seats are racing buckets trimmed in alcantara, with four-point race harnesses. The luggage compartment also has space for a couple of helmets, underlining the car's racing credentials.
Whether or not the Quattro Sport Concept will make it into production remains to be seen; however, it seems likely that elements of this car could influence a future TT-RS model.
