Volkswagen has announced the pricing details for the new Golf Estate, which goes on sale here in the UK tomorrow.
Prices will start from £17,915 for the entry-level S version, rising to £25,855 for the top-of-the-range GT model with a 148bhp 2.0-litre diesel engine.
Model-for-model, the Golf Estate is priced at £765 more than its hatchback equivalent.
The new Golf Estate offers 605-litres of luggage space with the rear seats up, 100-litres more than the outgoing Golf Estate and 225 more than the hatchback. With the rear seats down this increases to 1,620-litres, 125-litres more than the outgoing model.
All Golf Estates also come with roof rails and a multi-level boot floor which not only ensures a flat load area but also provides a space to store valuable items out of sight.
Four petrol engines will be available from launch: a 1.2-litre TSI with 84bhp and a five-speed manual gearbox, plus a 104bhp version of the same engine which is also available with a seven-speed DSG transmission. There are also a 1.4-litre unit with either 120bhp or 138bhp.
There are three diesels on offer: a 1.6-litre unit with a five-speed manual gearbox, a 1.4bbhp 1.6-litre TDI with a choice of five-speed manual and seven-speed DSG transmissions, and a 148bhp 2.0-litre oil burner with either a six-speed manual or a seven-speed DSG 'box.
All models come with Bluetooth, DAB digital radio, a 5.8-inch colour touchscreen, iPod connectivity, seven airbags and Volkswagen's BlueMotion Technology, which uses a stop/start system and battery regeneration.
Thanks to the BlueMotion technology, the most frugal models in the Golf Estate range will top 85mpg on a long run, while all models in the range will return in excess of 50mpg on the combined cycle.
