Toyota have revealed images of how their new production-ready Fuel Cell model will look.
The hydrogen powered car appeared at last year’s Tokyo motor show as a concept and is now gearing up for production in time for release in the summer of 2015. It is expected to cost around £40,450 in Japan but the final pricing structure has not been decided for the European and American markets.
Toyota have spent the last 20 years researching hydrogen power and they have made recent improvements in their Fuel-Cell technology to the extent that the Japanese manufacturer believes that the new model will have levels of performance similar to that of a petrol car.
Karl Schlicht, Executive Vice President of Toyota Motor Europe, said: "We are very excited by the arrival of fuel cell technology. Of course there are many challenges ahead, such as the availability of fuelling infrastructure and customer awareness. But our history with hybrid gives us all the experience we need to bring a new technology to the market."
In Europe we will be taking it step by step, gradually introducing the car in selected markets. But we are confident that hydrogen will become increasingly popular as a way of powering vehicles."
The 4 door saloon will mark a step forward in diversifying motoring fuels. The Hydrogen system produces no harmful substances to the environment and instead only emits water vapour from the energy process.
