Toyota has announced the prices for the upcoming GT 86 sports coupe.
When it’s released here in June, the new Toyota GT86 will cost from £24,995. That’s the same sort of money as the equivalent Golf GTi.
First unveiled at last year’s Tokyo Motor Show, the GT86 has a 2.0 litre four-pot boxer engine which delivers all of its 200bhp to the rear wheels. The GT86 is already being regarded as one of the best driving cars that Toyota have every produced. 0-60mph takes 6.8 seconds and the Toyota will keep on accelerating to well over 140mph.
The MR2 marks a return to sports-car market for Toyota which has not produced a car in this market sector since the MR2 was dropped from the price lists in 2007. The car was developed in conjunction with Subaru and their BRZ will be released here this year as well, sharing many of the Toyota’s underpinnings.
Toyota is already taking orders, so if you’re lucky enough to have £25k burning a hole in your pocket, it seems like the Toyota GT86 might must be the bargain of the century.
