Chevrolet has launched the new Aveo which it claims combines efficient engines with a sporty driving experience.
The new Chevrolet Aveo, designed to replace the successful first generation model, is a five-door hatchback with efficient engines and a new six-speed transmission. Both the exterior styling and the inside of the car have been extensively redesigned, there is a newly developed chassis and body structure, and the engines have been upgraded to make them more efficient and to reduce emissions.
The upper body and frame of the new car have been engineered as a single unit, in order to give greater mass-efficiency and a stiffer structure. Combined with a MacPherson strut front suspension with coil springs and anti-roll bar, and a torsion beam axle-mount compound link rear suspension, this Aveo should offer a stable ride.
Electronic Stability Control and electric power steering further enhance the handling and safety of the car. A Sophisticated support system is fitted with a wear compensator, to ensure consistently precise steering as the car gets older. For improved safety the Aveo also has a four-channel anti-lock braking system with brake assist as standard, and is fitted with 6 airbags.
Other features include cruise control with speed-limiter function, and enhanced noise control measures to reduce engine noise.
Inside the Aveo the distinctive dual-cockpit, which has been derived from the Chevrolet Corvette, features a wraparound instrument panel that flows into the doors. There are two gloveboxes, one of which includes a USB outlet, and all of the electronic devices installed in the upper glovebox can be controlled using steering wheel mounted controls or radio interfaces. Boot space in the new Aveo runs to 653-litres with the seats down, and those seats include a 60/40 split for greater flexibility of use.
The 1.4-litre petrol engine delivers 99bhp and lively acceleration at lower speeds. Also on offer is a 1.2-litre petrol engine and a 1.3-litre VCDi diesel that features common-fail fuel injection, start-stop technology and a variable-geometry turbocharger. This diesel engine comes with power output of either 74 or 94bhp, and there is also a low-emission EcoDiesel variant with fuel consumption of 78.4mpg and CO2 emissions of 95g/km.
Prices for the new Chevrolet Aveo start at £9,995 and it is available in three trim levels - LS, LT and LTZ.
