Subaru has updated its XV lineup for 2014 with improved dynamics, safety and quality and a new, leaner model range.
The big news is that the entry-level 1.6-litre petrol engine has been dropped from the line-up, leaving just the 2.0-litre petrol and diesel engines. It's the petrol model which receives the biggest improvements, including a range of suspension modifications to improve ride quality and new valvetrain components to reduce engine noise. Both the petrol and diesel models get additional soundproofing in the bulkhead to insulate the cabin from engine noise.
Subaru has also tweaked the electronic power steering system to give greater stability and feel. A new damper system reduces steering wheel and column vibration.
A thicker front suspension arm and a reinforced A-pillar have also been added, with Subaru claiming they improve on the XV's impressive safety credentials.
On the inside, the steering wheel gets a new blue Subaru logo, the steering wheel buttons and heated controls now get higher quality silver surrounds and the air-conditioning gets gloss black switches. A tyre pressure monitoring system and a gear shift indicator are also now fitted to every model in the range.
Just two trim lines are now available: SE and SE Premium. Prices for the SV remain unchanged, with the SE starting from £21,995 and the SE Premium starting from £23,995.
