Toyota has revealed the fuel economy figures for new Prius Plug-In Hybrid.

The Prius Plug-In Hybrid will emit 49g/km of CO2 and return 134.5 mpg on the combined cycle, Toyota has announced today. Toyota has improved the Prius Plug-In Hybrid's electric-only driving range to 15.5 miles, an improvement of 24% versus the trial vehicle, and the car can be recharged in an hour and a half using a conventional plug.

When the electric battery runs out, the hybrid mode kicks in, giving the Prius Plug-In Hybrid a total driving range of 769 miles, with CO2 emissions of 85g/km and fuel economy of 76.4mpg. Both of those figures represent an improvement over standard Prius models, but with identical seating for five and a 443-litre boot capacity.

The Toyota Prius Plug-In Hybrid will be launched in the summer of 2012, and due to the UK government's Plug-in Car Grant will cost under £30,000.
