The Nissan Juke is now available with a new and improved 1.5-litre dCi diesel engine, which Nissan claims offers lower emissions, greater fuel economy, less noise and more torque.
Although the engine's power output stays the same at 108bhp, Nissan has increased the torque figure from by 15lb-ft, from 177lb-ft to 192lb-ft. The old car's 11.2 second 0-62mph time and 109mph top speed remain unchanged.
It's in the engine's efficiency that the real changes can be seen. The new Juke returns 67.3mpg compared to the old model's 58.9mpg, while CO2 emissions have fallen from 124g/km to 109g/km -- a 14 per cent improvement.
The Juke also gets revised gear ratios -- 1st and 2nd are shorter than before to improve low-speed response, while 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th are slightly longer, taking advantage of the extra torque on offer to deliver better fuel efficiency.
The economy figures are also helped by Nissan's Dynamic Control system, which allows the driver to choose from three engine settings: Eco, Normal and Sport. In Eco mode the engine torque is cut down to 162lb-ft and throttle pedal sensitivity is reduced.
Prices for the Juke remain the same as before, with the cheapest 1.5-litre diesel-engined model starting from £14,895. The new engine is available across the Juke range.
