Toyota is set to break the 80mpg barrier with their new Yaris hybrid

Toyota will reveal their most fuel efficient production car ever at the Geneva Motor Show next month. The Yaris will utilise a new smaller and lighter 1.5 litre engine which, coupled to an electric motor, will give the car 99bhp and better economy figures than either the Auris and Prius hybrids. Toyota also claims that the new system is so compact that it should not intrude on the car’s interior space.

Toyota has not solely focussed on the emissions coming from the exhaust pipe; the production methods used to create the new Yaris Hybrid are said to be environmentally friendly as well. Toyota claims that the methods and materials used in the car’s construction also have a low carbon footprint.

The new car will be unveiled at the Generva Motor Show next month and will be available to buy in Britain from June with an expected asking price of around £15,000.
