Skoda are celebrating the results of the latest round of Euro NCAP crash testing which saw its new Fabia model gain the maximum five-star rating.
The independent Euro NCAP organisation tests all new cars released on the European market in four areas – adult occupant protection, child occupant protection, safety assistance systems, and pedestrian protection – and the new Skoda Fabia, which is about to go on sale on the continent, passed with full five-star marks in all categories.
The new Fabia benefits from a range of safety features and systems, including Front Assistant with integrated Emergency Braking Function as standard from SE trim level upwards, Multi-Collision Brake, and Electronic Stability Control. Other features include Hill-Hold Control, Electronic Tyre Pressure Monitor, and the option of a Driver Activity Assistant which can detect driver fatigue. The Fabia boasts six airbags, five three-point seatbelts, and rigid passenger compartment which won praise from NCAP testers for its contribution to occupant protection in the event of collision.
Dr Frank Welsch, Skoda Board Member for Technical Development, welcomed the news by saying: “One of the aims of the new Skoda Fabia development was to bring top-level safety performance to the small car segment. The maximum five-star rating is confirmation by independent experts that we have achieved this goal and it shows that the new Skoda Fabia is one of the safest small cars in the market,” said Dr Welsch.
UK order books for the new Skoda Fabia are already open, with deliveries expected to commence in February.
