MINI claims that the new MINI Roadster offers open top motoring and classic MINI handling.
The MINI Roadster is the sixth model in the firm's line-up. Model-specific tuning will ensure that the roadster still offers the fun, go-kart like driving experience which MINI is known for, and to maintain safety it will come with a pair of roll-over bars behind the seats.
A choice of four engines will be made available for the MINI Roadster. The range will start with the MINI Cooper Roadster with 122bhp, then the MINI Cooper SD Roadster with 143bhp, the Mini Cooper S Roadster with 184bhp and then at the top of the range will be the MINI John Cooper Works Roadster which delivers 211bhp.
A range of technology is also being fitted as standard to improve the handling and safety of the car. This includes electric power steering with speed-sensitive power assist and Dynamic Stability Control on the whole product range. The MINI John Cooper Works Roadster also has Dynamic Traction Control with Electronic Differential Lock Control to improve grip on slippery surfaces and improve cornering - a feature which is also available as an optional extra on all of the other models.
The aerodynamics of the new Roadster are enhanced by a rear spoiler that extends automatically once the car gets up to a speed of 50mph, while a low centre of gravity improves agility.
Other standard equipment includes air conditioning for every model except the entry level Mini Cooper Roadster, electric mirrors, Park Distance Control, and music system with CD player and MP3 compatibility. Optional extras that can be purchased include xenon Adaptive Headlights, black headlight housing, Comfort Access, Always Open Timer, and of course there is also the option of adding Sport Stripes in a contrasting colour.
