Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the new high-performance version of its G-Class model, the G 63 AMG.
The G 63 AMG is fitted with Mercedes's 5.5-litre biturbo V8 engine developing 557bhp and 561lb-ft of torque. 0-62mph arrives in 4.9 seconds and the top speed is an electronically limited 155mph. Unsurprisingly for such a large and powerful car, the quoted fuel economy figure is just 22.9mpg and you'll struggle to match that if you drive with any sort of zest. CO2 emissions of 228g/km mean that you'll be paying the top rate of road tax, as well as the maximum first year showroom tax.
Power is sent to all four wheels via Merc's seven-speed Speedshift Plus gearbox which features three different modes and an automatic double-declutching function. Mercedes has also fitted the G63 with Stop/Start, although for the life of us, we really can't see the point on a car like this.
The G 63 comes with a good amount of standard equipment including AMG sill panels, AMG floor mates, parking assist, Bi-xenon headlamps, collision prevention assist, CD radio with Bluetooth and USB connectivity, an electronically-operated tailgate, keyless start and climate control.
There is no word from Mercedes on prices and specification, but expect to see the G 63 AMG in showrooms from next year.
