New 2012 models of the Jaguar XF, XFR and XK cars got their world debut at the New York Auto Show this week.
The 2012 XF and XFR Range
The new compact XF saloon features a revamped style, new technology, and a new entry-level powertrain which promises to make it the most fuel efficient car that Jaguar have ever produced.
The new XF has a refreshed look at the front end with slim headlight units including distinctive LED lighting strips. The grille is larger and more upright, and the lower bonnet features a wider power bulge running down the centre line. There is also a new bumper section with the outer two of three airdams being intersected by twisted chrome fins.
Two new air vents are mounted on the front wings, which feature Jaguar script set into the chrome strip. At the back end of the vehicle the tail light units have also been redesigned with LED technology, and now extend further into the boot lid.
The inside of the car has also been given a makeover, although the changes are more subtle. There is a restyled steering wheel, revised switchgear for the ventilation systems, and new colour central and dial mounted screens for the reprogrammed navigation and entertainment software. The seats have also been given a new styling treatment and improved support.
For the first time a four cylinder engine will be available for the XF. This 2.2-litre common rail diesel engine delivers 187bhp and 332lb-ft of torque, and is mated to a new 8-speed ZF automatic transmission and a start-stop system (the first time this has been added to a Jaguar) to improve efficiency. With these fitted the XF can deliver fuel consumption of 50mpg and reduced CO2 emissions of 149g/km.
The 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine will still be available in 237bhp and 271bhp Diesel S form, and the petrol range will include a brace of V8 engines capable of delivering 380bhp, and a supercharged XFR with 503bhp.
The new XF cars will go on sale in September and prices will start at £30,950 for the new 2.2-litre diesel engine, and go up to £65,350 for the top of the range XFR.
The 2012 XK Range
The latest version of the Jaguar XK will come with a set of new headlight units. These lights are 15mm slimmer, and now feature LED running lights alongside the reflector units. There is a new, larger oval grille which is framed in chrome with mesh in the centre. For the XFR this mesh has a black finish. On either side of the grille there are a pair of small air scoops which feed air to the brakes.
On each wing the new XK features a horizontal vent with a chrome blade emblazoned with the Jaguar name, and at the back of the car new tail lights are mounted on each side of a thinner chrome strip and include the use of LED technology. Inside the new XK there are new trim finishes and, for the first time, it will come with the option of sculpted leather sports seats.
The new XK and XKR will both be available as a convertible, while the XKR-S is a Coupe. All of the new XK models will go on sale in the UK from September.
