Mercedes-Benz have opened the order books for the new E-Class saloon.

The new model has gone on UK sale priced from £35,935. There are two trim levels available – SE and AMG – while there is a choice of either the 195bhp E 220d engine or the 258bhp E 350d power plant.
Entry into the range comes in the form of the E 220d SE, powered by an all-new four-cylinder 2.0-litre bi-turbo engine allied with the 9-speed 9G-Tronic automatic gearbox that comes as standard on all new E-Class saloons sold in the UK. This partnership helps the E 220d SE to 72.4mpg combined, and CO2 emissions of just 102g/km. Contrast this with the outgoing E 220 CDI saloon, which produced 139g/km and could only manage 53.3mpg combined. The new E 220d is faster than its predecessor too, reaching 62mph from a standing start in just 7.3 seconds, almost half a second quicker than the E 220 CDI.

Models powered by the E 350d engine return 55.4mpg and produce 133g/km of CO2, and improvement from the 181g/km and 39.9mpg offered by its predecessor the E 350 CDI.  At 5.9 seconds, the new E 350d is almost a second quicker from 0-62mph than the E 350 CDI too.

Standard equipment on the SE includes Garmin Map Pilot with 8.4-inch display; parking sensors with reversing camera and self-parking system, Collision Prevention Assist Plus autonomous emergency braking system, Pre-Safe anticipatory safety system (including Pre-Safe Sound, which helps prevent damage to hearing), 64-colour selectable LED interior lighting, two-zone automatic climate control, three-spoke multifunction steering wheel with dual touchpads, leather upholstery with heated front seats, LED headlights and taillights; and electrically folding mirrors.

AMG Line models add unique bumpers and side skirts, 19-inch alloy wheels, perforated front brake discs, three-spoke AMG steering wheel, and Artico leather and Dynamica microfiber upholstery with seat comfort package, while all E 350 d models come with Air Body Control multi-chamber air suspension as standard, as well as COMAND satellite navigation with 12.3-inch display and remote online services.

The line up will grow later in the year to include a petrol-electric hybrid model, the E 350 e.

The new E-Class saloon is available to order now at Mercedes-Benz retailers.
