A brand new range of electric cars is set to go on sale in the UK this summer.

The French-built Mia-Electric line-up of compact electric cars will go on sale in July, with prices starting from around £20,400 (including the Government's Plug-In Car Grant).

The Mia-Electric is a bespoke electric vehicle designed especially for the city, with a central driving position, sliding doors, a cut-out floor and plastic body panels.

It's powered by two lithium ion phosphate batteries which together generate 12kW of power. Mia-Electric claims that a range of 74 miles is achievable and that the batteries can be recharged fully in 5 hours. On top of this, a quick 10-minute charge is also claimed to provide a five-mile range.

Each Mia will come with a five-year/70,000-mile warranty which covers the car, the battery and the drivetrain, and which also provides anti-corrosion cover and roadside assistance.
