The new flagship model of the Mercedes S-Class range, the S600, has been unveiled at the Detroit Motor Show.
Powered by a 6.0-litre twin-turbocharged V12 engine, the S600 develops 530bhp and 612lb-ft of torque, giving a 0-62mph time of 4.6 seconds and, naturally, a limited top speed of 155mph.
Despite the performance, however, Mercedes has gone to some lengths to ensure that the S600 is as economical as possible. Start-stop is included as standard and the engine meets the latest Euro 6 emissions standard, returning 25.4mpg -- a 21 per cent improvement over its predecessor.
As the top-of-the-range model in the S-Class line-up, the new S600 benefits from a wide range of standard kit, including Mercedes' innovative Magic Body Control system with Road Surface Scan, the LED Intelligent Light System, Active Lane Keeping Assist, Active Blind Spot Assist, BAS Plus with Cross-Traffic Assist, Distronic Plus with Steer Control and Pre-Safe Brake technology.
Ola Kallenius, Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Mercedes, said: "Our flagship model, the S600, epitomises the focus of our development work, the 'Essence of Luxury', in a way that no other model can. Our customers in North America and Asia in particular will enjoy this new top model with its exciting V12 engine."
The S600 goes on sale in March.
