Lexus has revealed the first official snaps of its new compact crossover, the NX, which is set to go on sale in the UK later this year.
The NX, which was teased last week, is the company's answer to the likes of the BMW X3 and Audi Q5, and will go on show at the Beijing Motor Show next week.
The NX production car follows on from the striking, if controversial, LF-NX concept which was unveiled at last year's Frankfurt Motor Show. And while the translation from concept car to reality has seen the NX's styling toned down considerably, the production car retains the angular styling and formidable presence of the Frankfurt car.
At the front end, there's Lexus's signature 'spindle' grille, flanked on either side by a set of LED headlamps and daytime running lights. Flared wheel arches house 17- or 18-inch alloy wheels, while the sculpted bonnet and sloping roofline both add to the visual drama.
Lexus claims that the NX's cabin is more like a sports car's interior than that of a crossover, featuring details such as a thick-rimmed sports steering wheel and contrasting trim. There's also a large central touchscreen infotainment system, along with a wireless charging tray for portable devices such as smartphones, a head-up display and -- best of all -- a G-sensor and boost meter.
There'll be a choice of three powertrains: a petrol-electric hybrid in the NX300h, a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-pot petrol in the NX 200t, and a naturally-aspirated petrol in the NX 200. Each will be offered with a choice of front- and four-wheel drive.
Lexus will confirm more details of the range, along with UK specifications, later this year.
