The new Honda Civic has been crowned the ‘best value car’ in Parkers Cost of Motoring New Car Awards 2012, beating rivals in terms of overall value.
The judging panel awarded the new Civic the accolade after investigating the value for money offered in terms of realistic costs. Unlike other awards which often look purely at purchase prices and fuel efficiency, Parkers Cost of Motoring New Car Awards considered the ‘hidden’ charges associated with motoring in addition to these common expenses.
Factors which were considered during the judging included the cost of services and breakdowns as well as road tax costs, fuel costs and the amount of depreciation the car was likely to experience.
These factors were considered alongside the initial cost of the vehicle, helping drivers to ascertain which vehicles are the best value for money when looking at long term ownership.
Attaining the highest honour in the awards, the new Honda Civic has been labelled as a great investment for British drivers offering plenty of financial benefits to buyers.
Praise for the Civic was high from Kieren Puffett, Editor of Parkers, who claimed it was “great value for money” and said Honda had a right to feel proud of their achievement. Honda was naturally complimentary of the result and Dave Godgetts, Managing Director of Honda UK (where the new Civic is manufactured) called the award a “fantastic result” for the brand.
He went on to add that “to have received this accolade so soon [after the car’s introduction] is a great achievement” and explained it was “even more special [because] it is based on fact.”
Honda’s achievements at the Parkers Cost of Motoring New Car Awards 2012 didn’t end here, however, and the Honda Jazz 1.3 IMA HE Hybrid also received recognition for its contributions to the motoring world.
The car won the Eco Car title: repeating its performance in the awards last year when it also took home the trophy.
