Nissan has released the pricing and specification details for the new, facelifted Leaf.
The big news is that, for the first time, buyers have the choice whether to lease the battery for their car or buy it outright. Prices starting from £15,990 after the Government's £5,000 plug-in electric car grant for buyers looking to lease their batteries, while buyers looking to buy the battery outright will have to fork out £20,990.
The battery leasing plans on offer range in price from £70 per month for a 36 month contract with a mileage limit of 7,500 miles a year, to £129 per month for a 12 month contract with a mileage limit of 15,000 miles.
Nissan has also introduced a host of improvements across the Leaf model line-up. The car's range has been extended from 109 to 124 miles and the battery takes roughly half the time to recharge as it did in the first-generation Leaf.
The longer range has been achieved by improving the car's aerodynamics, regenerative braking system and powertrain. A new heating system, which is 70 per cent more efficient than before, has also been added.
Three trim levels are on offer: Visia, Acenta and Tekna. All models come with air-conditioning, sat-nav and Bluetooth, while Acenta models also get cruise control, a colour reversing camera, automatic lights, electric folding mirrors, alloy wheels and remote heating controls.
Top-of-the-range Tekna models get Nissan's 360-degree camera system, heated seats and steering wheel and LED lights. A new energy-efficient Bose sound system also comes as standard.
The new Leaf has already gone into production at Nissan's Sunderland plant and the first UK deliveries are expected to commence in May.
