DS have revealed a new premium large saloon which is to spearhead their line up.

The DS 9 combines a traditional three-box saloon style with an expansive wheel base, large wheels, and sleek, raked rear window more akin to a fastback.  There are even subtle styling nods to the ground-breaking 1955 Citroen DS, such as the cone shapes on the edges of the roof.

The interior finish befits a premium sector model, with Nappa leather dashboard, watchstrap design seats, crystal-shaped touch-sensitive buttons, Alcantara roof lining, and hand-finished, leather-wrapped door handles.  The DS 9’s 2.90 metre wheelbase offers outstanding rear seat space.  Those rear seats are heated, cooled and massaging, and the central armrest is upholstered in leather with storage areas, built-in USB ports, and controls for the massaging seats and multi-coloured welcome lighting.  A  FOCAL Electra sound system, specially developed for the DS 9, is also included.

Its E-TENSE plug-in hybrid powertrain combines a PureTech turbocharged petrol engine with an electric motor, with a combined 225bhp and up to 31 miles of zero emissions motoring courtesy of a 11.9kWh battery.  An eight-speed automatic gearbox is included as standard.  The power options will soon grow to include two further E-TENSE hybrid powertrains, one with 250bhp, 2-wheel drive and increased range capability, and another with 360bhp and intelligent 4-wheel drive transmission.  A conventional 225bhp PureTech petrol engine model will also be available.

The DS 9 comes with multiple technology and driver assistance systems.  DS ACTIVE SCAN SUSPENSION uses a camera to scan the road, while level sensors, accelerometers and drivetrain sensors record every movement to provide individual wheel damping.  DS DRIVE ASSIST system offers semi-autonomous driving to control speed and direction, under the driver’s supervision, at up to 111mph.  DS PARK PILOT detects a parking space when passing it at speeds up to 16mph, the driver then indicates on their touchscreen that they want to park, parallel or into a bay, and then presses the Park button for the system to take control of acceleration, braking and steering.  The DS SAFETY suite includes DS NIGHT VISION, DS DRIVER ATTENTION MONITORING, and DS ACTIVE LED VISION systems, plus blind spot monitoring, automatic emergency braking and extended traffic sign recognition.  DS SMART ACCESS enables smartphone use to access and start the car remotely, and can be shared on up to five devices.

DS 9 goes on global sale later this year, with full pricing and specification to follow.
