The Dacia Spring Electric could come to the UK imminently if there’s deemed to be enough interest.

The Spring Electric would cost roughly half the price of rivals like the Peugeot e-208 and Renault Zoe, meaning it’s sure to be a success in a burgeoning UK EV market that’s yet to give buyers a budget alternative to mainstream EVs.

Dacia Spring Electric price and release date

How much exactly will the Dacia Spring Electric cost? We’re predicting Dacia’s EV could be priced from as little as £15,000 once the government’s £1500 plug-in grant has been factored in. For reference, the Renault Zoe starts from £27,595.

Dacia Spring Electric specifications

You can expect the Dacia Spring Electric to trade on its rugged charm. Raised suspension and plastic cladding means it looks like a little SUV and you can expect bright colour packs to add splashes of colour to the exterior.

Dacia’s ‘genuine’ design ethos means you’ll find no fake metal trims or body coloured plastics on the Spring Electric, everything’s built down to a price and the car wears that as a badge of honour.

Instead of fancy finishes, Dacia has focussed on giving you lots of car for your money so, while a Renault Zoe costs nearly twice as much, you can expect the Dacia to offer more interior space. It’ll have room for four lanky adults and a boot that’s big for the price.

Much like the exterior, the interior will be a back-to-basic affair with cheap plastics and plenty of conventional buttons. That said, unlike Dacias of old, you can expect to get kit like air conditioning, sat-nav and – drumroll – a stereo. It’ll all be packaged in a pleasing design that means the Spring feels cheap, but is also very cheerful.

With just 44PS on top, that cheery disposition will be best sampled in town. There the Dacia will have the pace needed to match modern traffic and, although it does have a top speed of 78mph, the Spring’s 140mile range means it’s not ideal for long journeys.

It also misses out on the fast-charge technology of newer EVs so it'll take an hour to recharge the small 27.4kWh battery from empty using a 30kW public charger or 5hrs from a 7.4kWh home charger.

We’ll have more news on the Dacia Spring Electric the minute it’s confirmed for UK sale.
