The Citroen DS5 Hybrid4 has been given a host of software tweaks which improve the efficiency of its diesel hybrid powertrain.

The new DS5 gets improved battery management software which both reduces CO2 emissions and lowers fuel consumption across the DS5 Hybrid4 range.

Essentially, the new software increases the amount of energy which is recovered through deceleration and braking, improving the efficiency of the DS5's hybrid powertrain.

The changes have resulted in drastic CO2 improvements across the board: the DSign model now emits just 91g/km (down from 99g/km), while both the DSport and DStyle models see a reduction of 5g/km, down to 102g/km.

On top of this, buyers of the DStyle and DSport models can now opt to fit 17-inch 'Houston' alloys to their cars, rather than the 18-inchers fitted as standard. These smaller wheels reduce the car's CO2 emissions from 102g/km to 91g/km.

Prices for the DS5 Hybrid4 DSign remain unchanged, starting from £27,600 and rising to £32,300.

The new Citroen DS5 Hybrid4 is available now.
