Audi's first diesel-fuelled S model, the SQ5 TDI, is now available to order, with prices starting from £43,870.
The SQ5 is fitted with a 3.0-litre bi-turbo diesel engine developing 309bhp and 497lb-ft of torque, which translates into a 0-62mph time of 5.1 seconds and an electronically-limited top speed of 155mph. The power is sent through an eight-speed tiptronic automatic transmission to Audi's Quattro four-wheel drive system.
Despite its impressive performance figures, the SQ5 is surprisingly frugal, returning 41.5mpg on the combined cycle and emitting just 179g/km of CO2, thanks to sophisticated thermal management, stop-start and a regulated oil pump.
The SQ5 sits 30mm closer to the ground than a standard Q5 and is fitted with 20-inch five-spoke alloy wheels. In addition to this, a platinum grey single-frame grille, quad exhaust pipes and a roof spoiler all come as standard.
On the inside, nappa leather sports seats and an 'S' steering wheel both come as standard, as do a 180-watt stereo and a 6.5-inch colour touch-screen device. Bluetooth, cruise control, climate control, parking sensors and automatic lights and wipers are also available at no extra cost.
The first delivers are expected to arrive in spring 2013.
