The all-electric Audi R8 e-tron has set the record for the fastest lap-time round the Nurburgring Nordschliefe.
Racing driver Markus Winkelhock piloted the electric version of Audi's R8 supercar around the 12.92-mile track in 8.09.099 minutes.
"The R8 e-tron has given a magnificent demonstration of its potential on the toughest race track in the world," said Michael Dick, AUDI AG Board Member for Technical Development, "to us, electric mobility has never been about sacrifice, but rather is about emotion, sportiness and driving pleasure."
The R8 e-tron's electric motors deliver a combined 280kW (375bhp) and 605lb-ft of torque. This makes for a 0-62mph time of 4.6 seconds and, although the e-tron is normally limited to 124mph, the limiter was raised to 155mph for the Nürburgring lap.
The e-tron has a 133-mile range thanks to its lithium-ion battery which stores 49KWh of energy. The Audi's range is helped by its ultra-light construction -- the e-tron weighs just 1,780kg despite its huge battery.
