Welcome to the Afternoon Round-up, our daily rundown of the day's motoring news.
UK car registrations rose by almost 6 per cent in March compared with a year earlier, figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) revealed. March marked the 13th consecutive month of growth in new car sales, with new registrations reaching the highest peak since the Scrappage Incentive Scheme was operating in 2010. The Ford Fiesta (pictured above) remains Britain's most popular car.
Petrol sales fell by more than 20 per cent over the past five years, new research from the AA has revealed. The figures show that just 17 billion litres of petrol were sold last year compared to 22 billion in 2007. By contrast, diesel sales increased over the same period by 2 billion litres to 16 billion, as the popularity of diesel models increases.
The Dacia Logan MCV is available to order from today, with prices starting from £6,995. This means that the Logan MCV will become Britain's cheapest estate car when it reaches Dacia dealers in July 2013. It is available with a choice of three engines -- 0.9- and 1.2-litre petrols and a 1.5-litre diesel -- and is on offer in three trims: Access, Ambiance and Laureate.
