The original Toyota Yaris was introduced in 1998, and since then it has been a very competitive choice among buyers in the supermini market.
The first generation Yaris was put into production in 1998 and was received pretty well in the European market, eventually voted as 2000’s European Car of the Year.
It was replaced by a re-designed second generation model in 2005. A new 3-cylinder engine was introduced and the engines that were common in the first generation model were revised and modified in order to produce more power. The 2009 saw further developments when Toyota added a 1.33 litre engine with Stop & Start technology as an option for the Yaris
The third generation Yaris was launched in 2010; it is much better looking than its predecessors and a Hybrid version is expected to go on sale in 2012.
