Suzuki Swift Overview

The Suzuki Swift is an affordable alternative to big name brands. The little car has a lot of style and makes a lot of sense. It’s inexpensive to run, and feels mechanically sound. It can be a fun car to drive when pushed hard.

Background

It saw its first production in 1984 as the Suzuki Cultas. Since then it has undergone many revisions in body style and mechanics. The Suzuki Swift as it is now known, was first produced in 2000 and has since been produced in 3 generations.

The first generation Suzuki Swift was in production between 2000 and 2004 and was originally known as the Suzuki Ignis and was one of the first Suzukis to use the Suzuki straight 4 gasoline engine.

The Second generation Swift was introduced in 2004 and was under production until 201. It represented an effort on Suzuki’s part to move away from the old Suzuki Cultus in favour of making a sportier model.

The third generation Swift arrived in 2010 and features a heavily revised version of the Suzuki Wagon R+ K12 engine

Summary

Suzuki has had a reputation in the past for producing cheap vehicles. The 2005 Suzuki Swift may be the beginning of a change in the company’s manufacturing quality. The Swift is undoubtedly a better quality build over previous models, and can hold its own with brands such as the Toyota Yaris, Ford Fiesta and Vauxhall Corsa.
