Lamborghini Aventador Overview
The Aventador sports a 6.5 litre V12 engine that enables it to top out at an incredible 217mph. Built as a replacement for the Murcielago, production is set to be limited to 4000 units. However, whilst the Aventador is designed to provide the ultimate driving experience in terms of speed and performance, it is scarcely affordable. The car costs over £200,000.
Like previous Lamborghinis, the Aventador name was chosen for its symbolic connection to the world of fighting bulls, sharing a name with the legendary Aventador who took part in a notably spirited, bloody and violent battle in 1993.
Background
The Aventador went in to production in 2011, and is one of only two models on the market today, the other being the Gallardo. The 7-speed transmission enables it to accelerate from 0 – 60mph in less than 3 seconds.
Six months after the unveiling of the Aventador, it became apparent that a roadster version of the car was planned for 2012. Sales are expected to begin after its introduction at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show.
Summary
The Lamborghini Aventador has a tough act to follow in the Murcielago, one of Lamborghini’s most successful models, but is already looking to be up to the challenge in the early stages of its production.
