The DS5 is the latest model to wear Citroen's premium DS badge. Although roughly the same size as the Citroen C5, the two cars share little in common and the DS5 is notable mainly for its 'shooting brake' body style. Like the DS3 and DS4 before it, the DS5 is more upmarket than its equivalent standard Citroen and has sleek exterior styling and a quality interior. Couple this to a range of efficient and refined diesel engines and you have an interesting alternative to the BMW 3 Series and Audi A4.

Citroen DS5 Overview
The DS5 benefits from a range of strong diesel engines and is very nice to drive. However, the ride isn't as smooth as you would expect on a big Citroen - the DS5 has clearly been set up to handle - and this is a pity for those looking for Citroen's famed ride quality.
The interior, however, is another matter. The DS5 is supremely comfortable and quiet, making it a capable long distance cruiser. The interior is elegantly styled and feels well put together and the driving position is excellent.
Background
Citroen's current DS range is named after the French firm's revolutionary DS model of the 1950s. Although the new cars have little in common with this fifty year-old design, Citroen are clearly hoping to use the retro appeal of the old car to sell the new ones - a trick that has worked well with the new MINI and the Fiat 500. The first car to wear the DS badge was the DS3 in 2009, followed by the DS4 in 2011. The DS5 was revealed at the 2011 Shanghai Motor Show and went into production later that year.
Summary
The DS5 is a left-field alternative to the German opposition and a very good car too. Time will tell if it's good enough to tempt the reps out of their Beemers and Audis, but if you're in the market for a compact executive car and fancy a bit of Gallic charm, then the DS5 is an excellent choice.
