The DS4 follows on from the success of the DS3, and as the DS3 was derived from the C3 hatchback, the DS4 is derived from the C4 hatchback. It acts as a crossover between coupe and hatchback and has replaced the previous C4 coupe. Hidden rear door handles allow the sleek lines of the coupe styling to flow seamlessly from front to rear. The engines available are three 1.6 litre petrols, and 1.6 litre and 2.0 litre diesel. The most highly tuned petrol unit offers real hot-hatch pace, although all engines offer good performance. In addition the issue of somewhat light steering of the C4 has been addressed in the DS4, which makes it more enjoyable to drive.

Citroen DS4 Overview
There is a decent amount of space in the rear given the cars sloping coupe profile which does cut into headroom somewhat, but unfortunately the fixed rear windows do give a rather closed in feel for those travelling in the back. Up front however, due to the panoramic windscreen, the car feels light and airy, whilst the raised driving position improves overall visibility. The boot is roomy given the cars dimensions and coupe roofline, and under-floor storage extends its capacity further.
Unfortunately the interior appears to have changed little from the C4. There are some nice touches however, such as soft touch materials that remind you of the premium feel this car is trying to achieve. There is also a generous amount of kit available as standard in the lowest trim level.
Background
The DS4 is the second offering in the new DS range that Citroen are aiming at the premium segment of the market. It is a medium sized family car that is based on the C4, but features raised suspension to give it more of a 4x4 crossover feel. It entered production in 2011 and was made available in the UK in the same year.
Summary
The DS4 looks to build on the success of the DS3, offering premium smaller cars to the market. It combines the sleek lines of a coupe, commanding driving position of a crossover and practicality of a hatchback. The DS4 also received Euro NCAP’s five star safety rating.
