A facelifted Mercedes-Benz A-Class has been revealed for 2023, with the popular premium hatch receiving a series of tweaks outside, inside, and under the skin.
The new 2023 Mercedes-Benz A-Class, a rival to the Audi A3 Sportback and saloon, BMW 1 Series and 2 Series Gran Coupe, the DS 4, Cupra Leon, high-end Volkswagen Golf and others, is open for ordering now. Prices start from £31,880.
It is a subtle facelift for the 2023 Mercedes-Benz A-Class. The car, which is available as a five-door hatch or four-door saloon, receives cool-looking new headlights with a more distinctive LED daytime running light, and smoked red rear lights with yet more LED detailing. The range of alloy wheels has been upgraded; standard models get 17-inch alloys, with higher grades offering a choice of 18-inch and 19-inch wheels.
The new Mercedes-Benz A-Class is available in a choice of 10 colours, including three solid colours, five metallics and two premium Mercedes-Benz Manufaktur shades. Regular models also offer a choice of black or grey interior colourschemes: the upholstery on regular variants is 100% recycled, with Mercedes-Benz A-Class fitted with sports seats boasting up to 65% recycled upholstery.
The highlight inside the new Mercedes-Benz A-Class is a big upgrade for the infotainment system. The twin-screen system now boasts two larger 10.25-inch screens, and it runs the latest MBUX infotainment software. This brings added functionality, the ‘Hey Mercedes’ voice assistant, plus standard sat nav, telematics connectivity, fingerprint scanner, along with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Charging has been upgraded to the latest USB-C standard, too.
The new Mercedes-Benz A-Class engine line-up comprises two petrols, a diesel, and a plug-in hybrid. The most affordable is the A 180 petrol, which has a 1.3-litre turbo engine producing 136PS. 0-62mph takes 9.2 seconds and it averages up to 48.7mpg, while emitting from 133g/km CO2. The A 200 is a more powerful 163PS version of the same engine, which cuts 0-62mph acceleration to 8.2 seconds. Fuel economy and emissions are identical; like the A180, the A200 has a seven-speed DCT automatic gearbox.
Both new Mercedes-Benz A-Class petrol engines have 48V mild hybrid technology. This gives ‘silent start’ refinement, without the whirr of a starter motor, and also allows the engine to be shut down during cruising – the ‘sailing’ mode helps improve real-world fuel economy.
The A 200 d is a 2.0-litre turbodiesel, producing 150PS. 0-62mph takes 8.3 seconds and it emits from 128g/km, with average fuel economy of 57.6mpg.
The new Mercedes-Benz A-Class plug in hybrid, the A 250 e, is offered both in saloon and hatch guise. It pairs the 1.3-litre petrol engine with a powerful electric motor for total system power of 218PS. A 15.6kWh rechargeable battery gives up to 50 miles’ pure electric running, while 0-62mph of 7.4 seconds is combined with CO2 emissions from just 18g/km for the popular hatch.
The high-performance Mercedes-AMG A-Class line-up opens with the 306PS A35, which does 0-62mph in 4.8 seconds, aided by 4Matic four-wheel drive and an eight-speed AMG Speedshift automatic gearbox. The A35 now has 48V mild hybrid tech, improving fuel economy to almost 35mpg. The A45 S has 421PS for thrilling 0-62mph acceleration in just 3.9 seconds.
The new Mercedes-Benz A 180 Sport Executive will be the entry-level model, priced from £31,880. The new 2023 Mercedes-Benz A-Class will also be offered in AMG Line Executive, AMG Line Premium, AMG Line Premium Plus and Exclusive Launch Edition model lines.
